Care doesn't really have any sort of obligation attached to it. Though I get what you mean. [ Because he can't only deny that his time here has hit him with similar feelings, but today especially, with his own amassment of gifts he's gotten from others that he didn't really have any expectations for. ]
I also understand how important the people who aren't here are, to those of us who can't be near them right now. [ Even though Yzak and his team weren't on the front lines anymore, he still considers them his team, his responsibility, his friends. Dearka, Shiho, Isaac ... if things are continuing on as is, they should be fine for the time being without him. Still, he misses them, even despite that. ] This mission obviously means a lot to us, but so do the ones that are still ongoing where we came from. Including my own. [ No longer in a mobile suit trying to fight for peace, but rather now in their capital city's main office doing the same. ] So, I want them all to be a success. And especially your people - they deserve peace, a home.
[ Even though Coordinators aren't the same as Mu, those roots of being deemed a threat, being different, are familiar to him. His people have a place they can call home, though, even if Yzak's reason for being here is to restore part of it - a huge part of it that was lost. But that's also exactly why he feels strongly enough about this. ]
[Blue nods, swallowing against that knot in his throat again.]
This means...a great deal to me. Thank you. [he catches himself reaching out to him, stops, and withdraws his hand back to himself, dipping his head. Yzak isn't keen on close physical gestures, so he'll respect that.]
[ Yzak glances at his hand, and the fleeting thought he has isn't really a disappointment (maybe just? a smidge?) so much as a self-reflection. But it's not really negative in nature, as he doesn't really feel that bad a way about himself - he knows who he is and what he's like. Even when Dearka is hanging off of a shoulder or Newton is throwing himself on him and slobbering all over his cheek, ugh, the toleration he puts on is always with an underlying appreciation. So really, it's fine, it would have been fine! But alas, being like a crabby cat that actually enjoys affection and attention but is barely acclimated to the softer types of it because he runs around bristling and hissing all day long to offput everybody.
Like all brief and harmless thoughts, though, it doesn't cause him to miss a beat beyond that glance. ]
You're welcome. And I'm glad to hear that, of course...! [ Because he also feels accomplished, since he aims for this. He likes when he gets this sort of payoff, because it puffs up his ego a little, like of course he always gives great gifts, see! Just continuing to prove that fact. (and wrapped up with that feeling is a general sense of being glad that he can do something nice for people he cares about) Yzak points at the other box. ] The other one isn't as ... complex, you could say. But that doesn't mean I put any less thought into it!
[the hand that had reached for Yzak instead moves to wipe at the tears brimming in Blue's eyes while he listens.
it takes a second to understand what he means by other one; he'd completely forgotten! this one was great enough, you know?
he nods, exhaling, closing his fingers over the trinket while his other hand moves from face to box, moving it to the forefront of his lap. he needs a second to set the charm down on the nightstand so he can see to this new box.]
The second box has a smaller more compact version of these kind of wind chimes - also not in one uniform color either, but rather a little more detailed and colorful than pictured. ]
Those are insects from Earth called butterflies. On PLANT we have them, too, but in lesser, more controlled numbers for obvious reasons. In either case! Most common visual depictions of fairies in stories and myths where I'm from give them wings like that. [ Which is self explanatory. He remembers what those children thought about Blue when they first saw him. ]
But, with all the time you spend in here, I know you can hear what goes on outside with your mind. But if you ever felt like listening to something different... I did make sure they're not loud. Because that would be pretty fucking annoying, honestly!
The real things are pretty fragile. [ How ... ironic actually. ] But that shouldn't be, since I don't go for anything cheap.
[ After that declaration, the additional praise gets him to smile - still a little proud, smirky because he can't help but enjoy feeling the COOLEST, but definitely softer, a rarer sight for him.
But much like the rarest of gems, it's short-lived, and after a couple of moments of Blue inspecting it: ]
Blue hesitates to obey, because he's not immediately sure where to lift it from that wouldn't disturb it in some way. with a little encouragement, though, he does finally hold it up as suggested, little bits of it clinking and tinkling against itself, notes muted against his hands.]
[ With that last bit of instruction so he can properly hear how it's supposed to sound, Yzak lets out a light, short whistle, a Charter magic spell that conjures up a tiny gust of wind, but enough to rustle it.
And just like he claimed, the sound the chimes make when hit is more soft than shrill. ]
Good to know I made the right choices in gifts, then.
... And, at least this one doesn't seem to be causing any more tears. [ If Yzak was a person who joked and had a sense of humor that would have sounded a lot more lighthearted. But, ]
[ He's not troubled as much as he knows he's clearly Tough Guy projecting since he's mister "hates being seen being emotional and will run out of a room to avoid it." That thought as well as one along the lines of guess I'm not very good with the good ones, either! go through his mind. But despite them, he's still Very Clearly Pleased by the situation.
Enough that he'll add: ]
I don't believe there are any immediate upcoming celebrations that similarly have gift-giving as a tradition. But on the off-chance that there is, I'll aim for the same thing in that case, if you're this appreciative!
[with a slight nod:] Yes. It's up to me...to be able to be prepared to manage...with those high standards of yours.
[but that's not a terrible thing, is it? it's nice, being so thought of. it just hurts...not knowing how to reciprocate in a way as meaningful.
he thinks about that miserable dream of Yzak's - of bodies and isolation. until he can think of something better, company may have to suffice...for as long as he's around to be able to provide it.]
[ He feels content enough with Blue's appreciation. Clearly that's a gift in and of itself for him in return! ]
Anyway, I can put that up for you. [ He motions at the wind chimes. ] If you'd like. And then take my leave since I'm sure you'd prefer to get some rest.
[ His company being enjoyed ... highkey what he wants from anybody that he himself likes being around. So hearing that makes him happy as he reaches over with a nod to gingerly take the wind chimes. ]
Yeah. Everything there was familiar to me, too. We don't really lean into the more religious aspects of the holiday where I'm from anymore, but we still celebrate the traditions.
You don't have anything similar, do you? Holidays like that. Or rather, maybe it's more accurate to ask that you haven't gotten the time to establish any.
Those will all become available on their own once you're settled.
[ He says that just as assured as he does anything else. There's some bit of empathy there, too, since while Yzak's world has those things - their holidays and celebrations - its still hard to really partake in and enjoy them during war time.
He opts to put the wind chimes up over Blue's bed, close enough that he can simply reach up if he wants to touch and hear it. But not where he'd hit it with his head or anything if he sat up. Strategic placement!! ]

Blue carefully runs his fingers along the edge of one of those delicate wings, as though any more pressure would shatter it.]
These gifts... May be the most thoughtful ones I've ever gotten before, Yzak...
