[ It's been a long, pleasant and busy day but Yzak isn't done with it quite yet. A busy day means he didn't have a chance to drop off some gifts that he'd meant to, so later that night, once things have wound down and everyone is either passed out from partying too hard or getting settled to call it night, he's on the move. And knocks on Blue's door lightly. ]
It's me.
[ He's holding a couple of things under his arm. ]
[there's no immediate answer, but after a few seconds:]
The door is open, you can come in, Yzak.
[while Blue gets to sitting himself up. he's feeling sluggish after that injection of energy Itachi gave him has worn off - it was a busy, nice day! but man...a Mu body can only take so much.
[ In he steps, then, once Blue gives him the okay. And Yzak gives him a nod back when he smiles at him. ]
I did. Even though I'm not as used to crowded festivities like this. [ A majority of his experience has been just him and his mother. Or barring that if he wasn't home or on duty, with Dearka and his team. Which was a bit less festive. So it evened out.
Still, he feels content with the day. Warmed even by not just the festivity of it, but the kindness received from those he considers his friends on the team (or like Sabriel and he had spoken about as they danced, family - what a weird and yet fuzzy thought). ]
And I assume the same of you.
[ Ever busy and always on the move, he saw Blue around at various times through the day as he did anybody else, weaving in and out of areas to spend the day with the others on the team and foregoing most of what his usual daily routines are, if only just for this special occasion. ]
As a result, I didn't get a chance to drop off any gifts I had prepared until now. [ At that, he holds out both of what he has on him to Blue, two boxes! One a lot smaller than the other. ] So, here.
[he nods a little. it was a busy day, but a good kind of busy - the kind of busy he'd prefer more than anything.
he also shouldn't be surprised there are gifts here - most everyone came prepared! still, there's that brief flicker of uncertainty - that for me, really? that inevitably crosses his features before he takes them and sets them in his lap.]
This was kind of you...you've already done so much for me as it is...
It was nothing. Hopefully the gifts are adequate enough, since I try to put at least some thought into them. [ And by some, he means a lot. Even certain more fanciful gifts he's gotten for others, he still picked out carefully.
The smaller of the two boxes contains a small charm - similar to the ones Yzak has collected in his room (and to a double-helix-shaped one that Newt might sometimes be seen with, also a gift from yours truly from their Braccia mission) - this one is in a spiral shape (something like this), dark metal that looks like it shimmers with blues and purples and whites if it catches the light. ]
[Blue is careful in opening that little box, and twice as careful in lifting the little charm up and into the palm of his hand. he looks it over with his breath held for a beat, quietly taking in the trinket's shape and colors before daring to say anything at all.]
It signifies plenty, of course. [ Especially coming from him! Even gift-giving is something he tries to be a perfectionist at. After that little boast, he shifts into focusing on explaining, with that steady, underlying feeling of excitement he gets when he does this sort of thing, even if his expression doesn't shift. Here comes mister nerdass again. ]
These sorts of amulets all have different meanings. So one gives or collects them with a certain wish, a certain intent - there are ones for luck, for riches, for joy, for love and for protection, nearly anything you can think of. I don't know if you or your people believe in that kind of thing - even the extent of my own belief in it only goes so far - but I still think there's some merit to it! [ Does he think throwing a love charm at someone would bag them a romance instantly? Of course not. But, Yzak thinks to himself, maybe presenting one's intentions this way still does something, that a thought from someone has even the tiniest ripple of some kind of universal cosmic energy that can end up making the tiniest bit of difference something needs. ] This one I asked for you, it's for protection - specifically, for a safe journey home. And it extends from being a gift just for you, to that of one for your ship, your people and the mission you're all on.
[ He leans in and points a finger at the shape next. ] This shape can have different meanings, too. Evolution, connection, [ Both of which are reminiscent of Mu. ] but it also happens to be the shape of the galaxy in which your destination, where Earth - Terra - resides.
[Blue's eyes remain on the piece as Yzak explains; he doesn't need to look at Yzak to 'see' what he means as he listens, after all. and as he listens, his expression begins to soften and grow cloudy, eyes slowly starting to glisten and brim with tears. the knot in his throat is painful, but the ache in his chest is lovely.
the galaxy in which your destination, where Earth - Terra - resides. carefully, Blue runs his thumb along one of the spirals. evolution, connection...]
Yzak... [ah, no. barely audible. he swallows, but shifts to telepathy anyway as he blinks out a couple quiet tears.] You made such a beautiful thing for me...
H-hey...! [ Oh no, not tears! Yzak is not good at those. But at least after glancing at Blue and looking briefly thrown by them, he recovers with minimal, but still some, awkwardness. ]
It - well, of course I did! I said I put thought into it, after all!
I wasn't exactly expecting to see you cry over it. But ... [ He did say beautiful. ] if you like it that much, then I'm glad I made a good choice.
[why wouldn't he? this is such a personal, meaningful gesture!]
Yzak, it's...stirring enough that so many here...care so much for me, for so little in return, but... [he looks back down to the trinket.] Putting such care for them, too...intentionally...
Care doesn't really have any sort of obligation attached to it. Though I get what you mean. [ Because he can't only deny that his time here has hit him with similar feelings, but today especially, with his own amassment of gifts he's gotten from others that he didn't really have any expectations for. ]
I also understand how important the people who aren't here are, to those of us who can't be near them right now. [ Even though Yzak and his team weren't on the front lines anymore, he still considers them his team, his responsibility, his friends. Dearka, Shiho, Isaac ... if things are continuing on as is, they should be fine for the time being without him. Still, he misses them, even despite that. ] This mission obviously means a lot to us, but so do the ones that are still ongoing where we came from. Including my own. [ No longer in a mobile suit trying to fight for peace, but rather now in their capital city's main office doing the same. ] So, I want them all to be a success. And especially your people - they deserve peace, a home.
[ Even though Coordinators aren't the same as Mu, those roots of being deemed a threat, being different, are familiar to him. His people have a place they can call home, though, even if Yzak's reason for being here is to restore part of it - a huge part of it that was lost. But that's also exactly why he feels strongly enough about this. ]
[Blue nods, swallowing against that knot in his throat again.]
This means...a great deal to me. Thank you. [he catches himself reaching out to him, stops, and withdraws his hand back to himself, dipping his head. Yzak isn't keen on close physical gestures, so he'll respect that.]
[ Yzak glances at his hand, and the fleeting thought he has isn't really a disappointment (maybe just? a smidge?) so much as a self-reflection. But it's not really negative in nature, as he doesn't really feel that bad a way about himself - he knows who he is and what he's like. Even when Dearka is hanging off of a shoulder or Newton is throwing himself on him and slobbering all over his cheek, ugh, the toleration he puts on is always with an underlying appreciation. So really, it's fine, it would have been fine! But alas, being like a crabby cat that actually enjoys affection and attention but is barely acclimated to the softer types of it because he runs around bristling and hissing all day long to offput everybody.
Like all brief and harmless thoughts, though, it doesn't cause him to miss a beat beyond that glance. ]
You're welcome. And I'm glad to hear that, of course...! [ Because he also feels accomplished, since he aims for this. He likes when he gets this sort of payoff, because it puffs up his ego a little, like of course he always gives great gifts, see! Just continuing to prove that fact. (and wrapped up with that feeling is a general sense of being glad that he can do something nice for people he cares about) Yzak points at the other box. ] The other one isn't as ... complex, you could say. But that doesn't mean I put any less thought into it!
[the hand that had reached for Yzak instead moves to wipe at the tears brimming in Blue's eyes while he listens.
it takes a second to understand what he means by other one; he'd completely forgotten! this one was great enough, you know?
he nods, exhaling, closing his fingers over the trinket while his other hand moves from face to box, moving it to the forefront of his lap. he needs a second to set the charm down on the nightstand so he can see to this new box.]
The second box has a smaller more compact version of these kind of wind chimes - also not in one uniform color either, but rather a little more detailed and colorful than pictured. ]
Those are insects from Earth called butterflies. On PLANT we have them, too, but in lesser, more controlled numbers for obvious reasons. In either case! Most common visual depictions of fairies in stories and myths where I'm from give them wings like that. [ Which is self explanatory. He remembers what those children thought about Blue when they first saw him. ]
But, with all the time you spend in here, I know you can hear what goes on outside with your mind. But if you ever felt like listening to something different... I did make sure they're not loud. Because that would be pretty fucking annoying, honestly!
The real things are pretty fragile. [ How ... ironic actually. ] But that shouldn't be, since I don't go for anything cheap.
[ After that declaration, the additional praise gets him to smile - still a little proud, smirky because he can't help but enjoy feeling the COOLEST, but definitely softer, a rarer sight for him.
But much like the rarest of gems, it's short-lived, and after a couple of moments of Blue inspecting it: ]
Blue hesitates to obey, because he's not immediately sure where to lift it from that wouldn't disturb it in some way. with a little encouragement, though, he does finally hold it up as suggested, little bits of it clinking and tinkling against itself, notes muted against his hands.]
[ With that last bit of instruction so he can properly hear how it's supposed to sound, Yzak lets out a light, short whistle, a Charter magic spell that conjures up a tiny gust of wind, but enough to rustle it.
And just like he claimed, the sound the chimes make when hit is more soft than shrill. ]
Good to know I made the right choices in gifts, then.
... And, at least this one doesn't seem to be causing any more tears. [ If Yzak was a person who joked and had a sense of humor that would have sounded a lot more lighthearted. But, ]
[ He's not troubled as much as he knows he's clearly Tough Guy projecting since he's mister "hates being seen being emotional and will run out of a room to avoid it." That thought as well as one along the lines of guess I'm not very good with the good ones, either! go through his mind. But despite them, he's still Very Clearly Pleased by the situation.
Enough that he'll add: ]
I don't believe there are any immediate upcoming celebrations that similarly have gift-giving as a tradition. But on the off-chance that there is, I'll aim for the same thing in that case, if you're this appreciative!
